Are you someone who enjoys solving problems, taking things apart, working independently, 使用数学, questioning why things are the way they are and teaching others? If so, a major in 化学 education could be right for you!
化学 education majors at Northwest study the 化学 curriculum and learn methods to apply it in the classroom. This major prepares students to teach all 化学 courses at the secondary education level (grades 9-12).
Like all Northwest 化学 majors, students study the science of matter and its transformations from one form to another. Faculty focus on providing practical laboratory experience and foundational knowledge in organic 化学, inorganic 化学, bio化学, physical 化学 and analytical 化学.
In education courses, faculty incorporate practical teaching knowledge where students learn to implement a curriculum in the classroom, create a positive classroom environment, methods of effective communication and techniques for assessing learners’ progress in the classroom.

Did you know? A minor is also available when completed under the B.S.Ed. The Secondary Program will meet Missouri teacher certification standards for 化学 grades 9-12.

Garrett-Strong Science Building offers 26 labs where students can gain profession-based experiences on campus. This facility also houses a synthetic cadaver, an aquarium and two museums that feature living animals such as a hedgehog, 老鼠, iguanas and more!
Horace Mann Laboratory School, an elementary school consisting of grades transitional kindergarten through six, is a clinical teaching environment located on the Northwest campus where students gain profession-based skills. Horace Mann is one of a small number of laboratory schools in the United States and provides hands-on experience for students to ensure they are career-ready upon graduation.
Northwest’s award-winning 院长李. Hubbard Center for Innovation features more than $3 million invested in state-of-the-art instruments that undergraduate students may access to gain profession-based experience.
Faculty-led research is an opportunity for undergraduate students to produce original research resulting in publishing their work and gaining valuable professional experience. This is available for students showing interest in furthering their education.
